One Week Internships at
Praxis Education Center in Central Florida


Praxis Education Center Read America is pleased to announce the opening of Praxis Education Center serving the needs of children experiencing sensory processing and language delays related to Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit, Asperger Syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Apraxia, Central Auditory Processing Deficit, Dysgraphia, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Commencing on November 5th, Read America will be offering one week internships at Praxis Education Center in Central Florida. Participants who successfully complete the one week internship and online examination will receive Read America's Praxis certification.

With this valuable certificate you will become part of the Praxis network and be entitled to post educational services and classes related to the above disabilities and delays on our Classes for Kids page at readamerica.net. Participants who have not yet achieved PG2 status and/or Language Wise certification will qualify to sit these exams following your successful completion of the internship week.

Instructional methods utilized will include:

-observation

-discovery

-daily informal question and answer sessions

-application of the methods and practices under the direction of Geoffrey and Carmen McGuinness

During the internship week you will:

-learn how to engage, interact with, and instruct children with sensory processing dysfunction (SPD) and language delays.

-learn tools to develop an action plan for SPD kids.

-learn how to organize, set up, and implement a group class for SPD kids.

-learn how to work with parents to develop programs for at home application.

-discover how to network and work with occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech and languge pathologistss, and vision therapists, to understand when to refer clients.

-learn about Tummy Tea™ for teaching new parents how to implement a successful tummy time regimen.

-learn about Centered Child Yoga™ for centering and focus.

-learn about Discovery of the Parent™ workshops for development of effective parenting skills.

-in addition to the above three programs developed by Carmen McGuinness, you will receive guidelines for assessing and choosing instructional programs and testing to add to your practice. Other programs that you will see in practice during your internship week include, Montessori math, Handwriting Without Tears®, Brain Gym®, Pay Attention!, and Structure of Intellect.

In addition to the above you will also have an opportunity to:

-observe and work along side Geoffrey McGuinness to perfect your Phono-Graphix teaching skills.

-learn the recommended scope and sequence of Phono-Graphix instruction and explore client files so that you become comfortable with the speed of delivery.

-explore strategies to apply Phono-Graphix instruction with the special needs population.

-hone your literacy diagnostics skills, and how to apply these to special populations.

-learn how to work with extended students.

-learn how to extend your practice to meet the demands of state required reading exams.

-learn how to extend students' comprehension and vocabulary development with the Language Wise lessons, enhancing students' chances of success with required reading exams as well as gifted placement and college entry exams.

-learn how to apply Phono-Graphix and Language Wise with teens one-on-one and in groups.

The cost of the one week internship is $475 for one intern, $900 for two interns from the same organization, and $1300 for three interns from the same organization.

We cannot oversee more than three interns at a time. A $175 deposit will be taken at the time you book your internship week. The nearest hotel is La Quinta Inn & Suites located at 1060 Greenwood Blvd in Lake Mary (407-805-9901), with room rates starting at $75 a night.
