Comments: Hello everyone. My name is Sue Koike. I am a junior years teacher at a small private school in outer London. Our department takes children who have either started to fail because of poor reading and spelling skills or who need a very small environment for emotional or social reasons. I take the youngest or neediest but this year my small group spans years 3 to 6!
I have been using Phonographix for about 6 years but have yet to convince the older staff, to exclusively use the system. They have invested too much time and effort in the traditional Dyslexic programmes. Parents are certainly convinced though.
I am confident that what I do, in terms of reading and spelling, moves the children on quickly and securely, but I have never been happy with the text book led approach which underpins their further development. I try to use 'language wise' ideas but I want to develop a truly integrated approach to our work that really takes into account all the important theories, research findings, and motivational ideas. Our children are behind already in many areas of their development. I want them to catch up fast and tap into their potential and I need all the help I can get!.
SueK
