Comments: My In 2 Books group just grew by one child. She is a five year old whose school wanted her mother to take her for learning disabilities testing. This is a bright happy normal, intelligent, well behaved child who we know very well. What is the world coming to? I despair as to where the institution of education is headed. It's a terrible mark on our culture that parental involvement is the number one determinant of a child's success at school. Schools are supposed to neutralize advantages not encourage them. Where will this end? When I was a young teacher and school owner I honestly believed that the system would eventually fail and there would be a revolution. How naive I was. How can something fail when it is owned by the very people causing the failure? How can there be a revolution when the system perpetuates itself - when the failed students become the teachers and parents upon whom we look for revolution. Each of us needs to hold our eyes wide open every day and never let them put blinders on us. It's so subtle we harly see it coming until one day we realize that all we can see is the blinders, and in them a healthy, normal, intelligent, well behaved five year old can be labled 'learning disabled'. And for every one of them whose parents pull off the blinders long enough to say, "I don't think so," there are fifty whose parents are too busying working themselves to death after a really rotten education ... the 'preparation for life' that our forefathers promised us all.

I know it's Spring Fever season and I'm supposed to be giving you all an uplifting experience. But Lord! ... where it end?
