Dissatisfied with the limited results they were achieving with various reading methods at their private school and clinic, Carmen and Geoffrey McGuinness founded the Read America, Inc. in Orlando, Florida in 1993. It was during this time that they developed the Phono-Graphix reading and spelling method.
The McGuinness's parent how-to book Reading Reflex-The Foolproof Phono-Graphix Method was released in the US in 1998 and Britain in 1999.
With continuing concern over comprehension, vocabulary development, and logical reasoning skills the McGuinness's second book, How To Raise Your Child's Verbal Intelligence-The Language Wise Method, released in the US and UK in April of 2000.
In 2006 the McGuinnesses sold the name "Read America Clinic" to long-time Read America trainer Erin Duncan. Today "Read America Clinic" is an independent company doing business in Santa Cruz, CA, and is not corporately connected to Read America, Inc.
In 2007 Carmen and Geoffrey McGuinness founded Chrysalis School at Read America, a private Orlando based school for children with learning disabilities and other special needs.
In 2011 Read America, Inc. expanded its sales and teacher training services under the umbrella of The Phono-Graphix Reading Company, Inc.
Since 1993 Read America, Inc (now the Phono-Graphix Reading Company) has provided services to thousands of children, families, and teachers around the world. Since 1993 it has remained our mission to provide the best possible instructional techniques to children, parents, and teachers; and in so doing to change the face of educational content, theory and practice to those more in keeping with the way children learn.
