What I do and how it supports literacy:
I earned a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL in May of 1993. I taught kindergarten, K-1 multi-age, first grade, and pre-k, in GA and FL for 8 years. I earned a Master's Degree in Communication Disorders at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL in May of 2003. I have practiced Speech/Language Pathology in the private setting since June of 2003. I have also practiced in hospital and nursing home settings.
I have experience with a number of disorders which affect speech/language development. These include Autism, Down's Syndrome, William's Syndrome, DiGeorge Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, MS, ALS, Fragile X Syndrome, Sensory Integration Dysfunction, expressive/receptive language Delays, apraxia, aphasia, dysphagia, and articulation disorders.
I participate in continuous educational development to keep my clinical/therapy skills up to date and effective. Some of this training includes behavior management, phonological disorders, swallow therapy, childhood development, literacy development, and ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages). I strive to use my knowledge and experience to support children and their families by providing support, techniques, and strategies to help children reach their ultimate potentials.
