Comments: How significant is the quality of a child's handwriting to the quality of their spelling? And how often does it indicate the presence of other problems? I am currently working with a very bright boy who has problems with his spelling, but I am wondering if his handwriting may be aggravating his difficulties. If writing is hard to read, then presumably this is going to make it difficult to look at a word and see if it 'looks' right. This child's 'r's can look like 'n's or 'h's, and his 'w's can deteriorate into a series of shark's teeth. (The school teaches a 'sharp' rather than 'rounded' 'w'. My son, who attends the same school, produces the same illegible letter 'w'). He also joins his letters in a bizarre fashion. Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks Yvette
