Seventy-nine middle school students were isolated as needing special help with reading. They received Phono-Graphix instruction from August through April during their language arts class. They were pre and post tested on the Gates-McInitty Comprehension sub-test. Average gains were one year, eight months after eight months of instruction. 97.4% of the students showed improvement during this study. Seminole County Schools have gone on from here to offer Phono-Graphix training to it's teachers at regular training events. The county has also written and received a grant to establish an in school Phono-Graphix clinic in many schools throughout the county.

Results of the Spring Lake Costco Mentor Study

Forty-three grade one through three students were isolated as needing special help with reading. Sixty-four percent were described as non-readers. All forty-three children received help once per week for forty-five minutes for eleven weeks--a total of eight hours of instruction. Help was offered one-on-one by Costco employees who had received four hours of Phono-Graphix training and used materials from Reading Reflex. The Qualitative Reading Inventory was administered pre and post. Average gains were eleven months. 93% of the students showed improvement. Costco have not stopped here. Since the completion of this study they have been responsible for the training of over 500 Costco employees who are now working in schools all over the US--teaching children to read.

Thunder Ridge High School Study

Ten learning disabled youths aged 14 to 16 attending remedial high school classes received Phono-Graphix remediation for a period of twelve sessions. Average gains were 4.5 years on word attack and 2.3 years on word identification using standardized reading tests. It should be noted that these youngsters had been in special ed for an average of six years prior to this remediation. In the last school term prior to Phono-Graphix intervention they had made an average of zero gains on standardized tests.
